My brother-in-law Andrew has been going to Colorado to climb 14ers every year for the last 15 years or so. In September of 2013 John and I were able to join him. We arrived in Denver, rented a car to visit my grandmother in Golden and stopped by Spyderco. Then we met up with Andrew and stayed with him by the Denver airport.
We stopped in Leadville before heading west to Mount Massive.
We arrived at the trailhead, went for a hike, and eventually setup camp.
Steve, John and I left camp at 6 AM and headed up towards the summit of Massive.
After we were above the tree line Steve went ahead. John and I stayed together. We reached the summit a little after 11. Some clouds were building. There was about 20 people up there that came from the other side of the mountain.
It took us about 4 hours to get back to base camp.
The next day we hiked up to Halfmoon lakes.
After the Halfmoon lakes hike, we moved camp to be closer to the Mount Elbert trailhead.
